I am a swimmer so I know what it’s like to be nervous during a swim meet. The biggest swim meet I’ve been to was in LA. We competed against all southern California swim teams. The program I was in was the LA84 Foundation. During that swim meet I found out what it’s like to feel sick to your stomach right before your heat. When I was younger I tried so many different sports such as soccer, ballet, water polo, tennis, softball, cross country, and gymnastics but I only liked swimming. I first started with swimming lessons and I loved them, I couldn't wait to go back the next day. After I finished all of the levels I immediately joined a team. I started swimming competitively when I was in third grade and I have been in the same program since. The team was called LA84. The first year I started LA84 I was extremely nervous because I was one of the youngest ones swimming. I was also nervous because I feared that I would be the slowest one, but I wasn't. That year I got chosen to go to a big swim meet in LA, so I went. The stadium was huge (LA84 Foundation/JohnC. Argue Swim Stadium). When we got there my heart was pounding so fast, and when we found our spot to sit down I started to cry because I was so nervous. When my event and heat came up I couldn't even walk because I was too scared. Finally when I got up on the block I asked myself “why are you nervous?” Then when I thought about I remembered I was only racing against my own time and not the other girls I was competing against. So when the buzzer went off I dove right into the water and swam as hard as I could. In the end I got second place but I felt good about and I was not nervous. When I got out of the water my friends and coaches started to congratulate me and it felt great. I grabbed my towel and my snack and got ready to cheer on my other teammate. After that swim meet I learned that there is never a reason to be nervous because whatever it is it has to pass anyway. Even if it is a swim meet or a test I learned that I will get through it no matter what. This is a good thing to know That way you don't feel like throwing up before every important thing that comes up.
